Jobs market remains resilient.

According to the latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), Australia’s labour market is showing remarkable resilience in the face of the broader economic slowdown.

There was a surprisingly strong employment increase of 56,000 in December, in excess of market expectations for an increase of about 15,000 jobs.

The growth in jobs was concentrated in part-time employment, which soared by 80,000. Full-time employment decreased by 23,700.

Employment growth was 0.4% in the month, slightly higher than the average monthly rise of 0.3% during 2024. The number of unemployed people increased by 10,000.
